Tibby Got Adopted!

Tibby left Wednesday night.  He will be the only pet in the house with a quiet older couple. Happy tails, Tibby!  Sounds like life will be good for you!

Additional cats will be brought to the store in the next day or two.  Cages are set up and ready for them.  Please keep them ready as we often send staff at the last minute.

As most of you probably already know LeeLoo is a tad temperamental.  She came out first today and then two of the younger guys joined her.  No fighting, no hissing.  She just watched them.  She is not fond of going back in the cage so get from the rear to put her back!

Coverage is needed for the below dates.  Let me know if you are available.

Sunday, August 11:          Morning Cleaning and Adoption Table
Sunday, August 18:         Adoption Table
Wednesday, August 21:   Adoption Table
Friday, August 23:          Morning Cleaning
Saturday, August 24:      Morning Cleaning
Sunday, August 25:        Adoption Table
Friday, August 30:         Adoption Table

I was told we need more brown paper to line the cages.  I will get on that!

Toby Goes Home!

Toby went home last night!  He will be living with a young couple and a ten year old Husky named Diezel.  Diezel lived with a cat for many, many years that died at the age of 18.  Toby will keep Diezel on his toes!

Elvis and Tango arrived at PetSmart this week. Elvis is a young male - about four months old and was brought in by a local volunteer trapper.  He is a good boy!  Tango is another young boy and is about two weeks older that Elvis.  Beware of this rough and tumble guy!  He was beating on Elvis when they first arrived.  He was segregated into his own cubicle as a result.  This little cutie with total attitude should not last long...orange males never do!
Elvis
Tango
Celesta will be taking over every other Monday evening!!  Thank you, Celesta!!  Paige starts this Friday!  Good luck, Paige!

Just a reminder...  Please allow new arrivals to settle in on their own schedule.  Often times we tend to humanize the cats and think they want company or they are excited about the change of venue.  Most times the exact opposite is true.  The cats are stressed out because their surroundings have changed.  They are now stuck in an area where other cats have access to them and they feel threatened.  Allow new arrivals to have their own space until you see they are comfortable.  Do not force them out to play with others.  They will let you know how they feel if you watch and listen!  Just as we caution all new pet owners when they are taking their adopted pet home - slow introduction to a new environment lessens the stress on the pet.

Lots of Information! Playing Catch Up!

Today I am going to introduce a couple of new arrivals at the store as well as those who have been there for a little while.  In addition I am going to list the adoptions from the last few months, say good bye to volunteers who have served us well and introduce a couple of new volunteers!  Lots going on!!

Presently at PetSmart we still have LeeLoo, Ziggy and Dante.  LeeLoo is an eight year old female cat - black and white.  She was surrendered to the Shelter in March of 2018 when an elderly couple could no longer care for her.  She has been waiting a long time for a second chance.  She does qualify for our Senior For Senior Adoption Program.
LeeLoo
Poor old Ziggy definitely needs a break!  She came into the Shelter in April of this year.  Her owner had passed away a year ago and the new owner could no longer care for her. We are saying she is 12 years old, however we are not sure.  This poor girl has a terrible gum issue and had her teeth pulled out at the vet.  Another cat that qualifies for Senior For Senior Adoption Program.
Ziggy
Dante is still at the store - although Daniel left.  These two were trapped and removed from a hoarder situation in May.  He is about nine months old.
Dante
These two guys are arriving at the store tomorrow: Toby and Tibby. Both are wonderful, friendly boys!  Tibby is is about two years old and was surrendered to the Shelter in June of last year when a woman stated her son had left Tibby behind - now she was moving and the new place would not allow him to go.  Toby is a friendly young man about nine months old that was found hanging around a restaurant.
Tibby
Toby
Daniel left PetSmart last Wednesday night and will be living with four other cats.  One of the cats is a previous adoption from us.

Here is a list of the adoptions from PetSmart from the last few months.
APRIL: Trooper, Salinger, Suzie
MAY: JB, Lexi
JUNE: Taz, Luna, Dolly, Ramses, Fonzie
JULY: Colby, Daniel

Please take a look at the calendar link to the right and let me know if you can cover any of the upcoming dates that do not show a name next to it.  I will send out emails weekly with dates as well. Let's see if I can't get back on track with our blog updates!!

Time to say good bye to two mother/daughter teams that have volunteered for this program for quite a while.  Kristine and Olivia have been our regular every other Monday night, Angel and Julia have been our every Friday night.  These awesome teams of mom and daughter will be missed!  They will both be remaining on our sub list though.  Thank you so much for all your help!  You truly made a difference!!

We have two new volunteers to welcome to our program...Paige who will be doing Friday nights starting on August 1 and Celesta who will be on our substitute list. Welcome, Paige and Celesta!!  We all look forward to working with you!!

Spring Has Sprung!!

So, we did a nice deep cleaning over the last few days and brought four cats to the store on Tuesday.  Below is a list of the cats adopted since the last blog entry.  Happy Tails to all of them!!

Hawkeye
Cobbler
Cream Puff
Lila
Bella
Panda
Juno
Mishu
Binx

Introducing the four who made their debut yesterday!

Ten year old Muffy came in as a stray in November of last year.  His ears are all folded up due to untreated hematomas. He was neutered at intake so someone at some point was taking care of him. Senior bloodwork was done to make sure he was otherwise healthy and he is.  He is a loving gentleman and will make a very nice lap cat and companion.  He qualifies for the Senior For Senior Adoption Program.
Muffy
Salinger is, in a word - wonderful!  This friendly boy came in as a stray earlier this month.  He was welcome to be returned to a managed colony but we found him way too domesticated to live the life of a community cat. Salinger will make a great family pet!
Salinger
Suzie is shy but sweet.  She came in as a stray in early February from an area that we know well and have tried over the years to help contain.  She is young - under a year.  Give her some time to acclimate to the new surroundings at store and do not press her.   She will be fine once she settles in.
Suzie
Trooper is a young cat that is all boy!  This rough and tumble guy came into the Shelter as a stray just a week ago.  He should do well in any home.  He is under a year old as well.
Trooper
As everyone well knows kitten season is right around the corner.  The Shelter has again joined with the Animal Alliance of Cape May County to facilitate the spay/neuter of as many cats as possible.  Please share the below flyer and help spread the word:

Please take a look at the April calendar and let me know if you are available to cover any of the vacancies. This week coverage is needed for Friday, March 29 in the morning and Sunday, March 31 at the Adoption Table.

Happy February!  Here are all the cats presently at PetSmart.  Adoptions did well this month!  All those that went home are listed at the end of this entry.

Pearl is a sweet little female tiger about ten months old.  Please go slowly with Pearl.  She is sweet but very shy. She definitely needs a quiet home.
Pearl
Porthos came and went rather quickly! One or two of you had the pleasure of meeting him during his short stint at the store.  This eight month old solid black male was transferred from PetSmart to Animal OutReach on Tuesday night. As you know they have a small cat shelter in West Cape May and are a fabulous outlet for us.
Porthos
Bella went home last night - Wednesday.  She is gained a mom, dad and canine sister named Cadence.
Bella
Hawkeye is only a couple of moths old and was found abandoned at a gas station. This rough and tumble little guy has an application pending.  We reached out to the applicant to get some questions answered however have not heard back from them.  At this point we are continuing to take applications.
Hawkeye
Cream Puff and Cobbler are litter mates about five months old that came in as a strays together in early October.  We are really hoping to send them home together.  The adoption fee is waived if they go home together!
Cream Puff

Cobbler
Lila
Above is beautiful Lila!  What a great picture!  Those eyes say it all! She came in as a stray in August of last year.  She is about eight months old.  She can be shy at first however loves attention.

Thankfully adoptions have continued to do well since the beginning of 2019.  Let's hope it continues.  See how many you remember of the cats adopted since the last blog entry...

Please take a look at the February calendar and let me know if you are available to cover any of the dates open.  Wednesday mornings need coverage starting with the 13th of February through the 3rd of April 3 as Toni is going away (safe travels!!).  In addition Angel and Julia will be away on Friday, February 15 (enjoy guys!).  The below dates are open:

The following Sundays morning: February 10, 17 and 24
The following Friday mornings:  February 8 and 22
The following Saturday mornings:  February 9 and 23.
The following Sunday Adoption Tables:  February 17 and 24

We do have a new volunteer - Grace - and she has done a couple of Sunday mornings. Grace is active doing TNR in her area and has proven to be a great asset to the Shelter.  Welcome, Grace!!  It is wonderful to have you!  Also, welcome Morgan to the Adoption Table!!  Morgan's mom, Teri, has been our liaison to ROAR (Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue) in Connecticut for years.  Teri is the original transporter of the Underground Kitten Railroad!

Again...THANK YOU all for everything you do for this program!  Nine cats leaving in January shows how important this is to the Shelter.
