Bacon and Eggs Go Home Together! Sundi Gets A Home, Too!

On Saturday three of the cats went home.  I did not even get a chance to introduce Bacon and Eggs and they are gone! Sundi went home as well.  Bacon and Eggs went together to a home where they will share the love and affection of an older couple and no other animals.  The couple recently lost their cat of 17 years that was strictly inside and an outside girl they had fed for eight years.  They had built a little house outside for that cat on their porch that was even heated.  Bacon and Eggs are going to have a nice life in this cat friendly house!

Sundi was adopted by a young single man who was looking for companionship.  He chose the right cat! These two will become good buddies!

Three cats arrived at the store yesterday - Matilda, Maizy and Max. 

Matilda and Maizy are litter mates that came to the Shelter in early June at about 6/7 weeks old.    They are about 13/14 weeks old at this point. They spent a couple of weeks in a foster home with dogs, other cats and kittens and even a ferret.  They will be a tad shy at first so go slowly with them as they acclimate to the store.

Max is an older cat that was surrendered in mid-July by a woman who said she was moving across the country and could not take.  Although she said she owned him for nine years he appears younger than that - more like about five years old.  The owner claims he was good with other cats and with dogs - not sure about kids.  He is a nice cat and deserves a second chance!

Wild and Wily Waffles!

Waffles arrived at the store yesterday.  He is a rough and tumble little guy that just loves to play!  He would do best in a home with kids and even a dog to keep him occupied!  He was born in a local self storage facility and arrived at the Shelter in early June at about six weeks old.  The rest of the litter is at the Shelter altered and ready for adoption.  They are all nice kittens!

Let's Catch Up!

Swirls was adopted by a former Shelter employee and will have a nice life living with two girls and mom.  Stony was adopted by the person who originally adopted Little Fuzz.  Little Fuzz was brought back after two days as apparently the adopter's son had an allergic reaction to her long hair.  We have since transferred Little Fuzz to Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold.

Sundi, Nashville and Durante have joined Robin and Frisky.

Durante is about a year and half old and was left behind when his owner was moved to assisted living and the house put up for sale. He is a little shy but will come around quickly with attention. He is a great boy!  He loves other cats!

Sundi is a pretty black female about four years old.  Sadly her owner passed away and she was brought to the Shelter by a family member along with three other cats.  She is a very social cat that will do just fine in a multiple cat household. She will make a lovely companion for someone!

Nashville is an older boy that was living in an abandoned building with several other cats.  He is about eight years old and came in with an ear tip so someone at some point took care of him.  He is a cutie and we know will do well with other cats.  He came from the same house as Mufasa and Spencer - cats you may remember. He is a great tom cat and would prefer to be the only male around!

Adoptions have been slow both at the Shelter and at Petsmart which we suspect is due to the Fourth of July holiday.  Hopefully things will pick up soon.  In the mean time we are being inundated with kittens.  To date we have 90 kittens in foster homes.  We continue to work with other Shelters to move as many out as possible.

There are several additional dates that need to be filled this month due to vacations.  Please let me know if you are available to cover and of them.

Latest Adoptions

Misty and Boots left on Saturday to two different homes.  Misty is now living with a thirteen year old cat in a multi-generation household of five adults where she will receive a lot of attention!  Boots finally has gone to her forever home - where she will be the only cat living with a dad and his daughter.  They had adopted a cat named Emmy from us a couple of years ago that developed health problems and passed away within a year.  They were both so very nice and took such good care of Emmy. We know first hand Boots landed with a great family.

Three cats were brought down to the store last Friday...Swirls, Friskie and Little Fuzz. All three are fine with other cats and will acclimate easily to most environments.

Swirls is a young adult male that was found in the Cape May County Park actually wearing a leash and collar!  No one ever came looking for him.  He is micro chipped however the phone number listed with the chip is out of service.  Do not be alarmed by lumps you may feel on his sides.  Our vet has assured us the lumps are not hernias nor anything to be concerned about.  We did bring Swirls back to the Shelter today since it was reported he was having difficulty urinating. We are going to keep an eye on him for a day or two and decide if he can go back or if he has a urinary infection.

Little Fuzz is a two year old female that was part of an inside/outside group of cats belonging to the landlord of a rental property.  The tenants who had accepted the cats moved and the new tenants are  not so cat friendly.  The landlord took Little Fuzz and her brother Big Fuzz home for the winter months but would no longer keep them. Big Fuzz has been adopted. Little Fuzz is friendly and will make someone a nice pet!

Friskie has a history we will never know.  She first came into the Shelter in July of 2009.  She was only three months old and part of a managed colony.  She was socialized at the time and we felt it best to find her a home rather than return her to the colony.  She was subsequently transferred to a local rescue.  Prior to transfer a microchip was implanted.  On May 21st of this year we received a call from the Atlantic County Shelter that a cat with a microchip originating from our Shelter had been picked up by Animal Control and was in their shelter.  We picked up Friskie.  A check of our records revealed the transfer - however that rescue no longer had adoption records and the chip had never been registered by the adopter. Nine years later Friskie is back where she started from.

Please take a look at the calendar as a couple of unforeseen circumstances have led to two regular spots being available for the remainder of the summer.  Saturday Adoption Tables will need coverage as well as Sunday mornings.  Judy M and Deb & Warren will let me know as soon as they are able to return.  Cathy Tc will no longer be able to do every other Friday morning.  (Thank you for your help over the years, Cathy!!)  If you have any friends or family interested in joining us let me know!

Gentle reminder...please make sure to email the shelter (animal.shelter@cmcsheriff.net AND cc me daviesdunhour@comcast.net) on any observed health issues with the cats or logistical problems or anything.  If you call the Shelter please email the information as well when you get the first opportunity.  It really helps us to maintain communication and make sure that nothing falls through the cracks or gets lost in a message that may be repeated several times.

Here's the Latest!

Hannah left over a week ago and will be the only pet in the house.  She will be getting a ton of attention!  Delaney and Dylan left the same date to a household with a bunch of young adults and two kittens. We have been worried about these two as they were a tad nervous and scared.  Two days after arriving at their home Delaney was afraid and would not come out from under a bed. Just today the adopter stated she is doing much better and both are slowly acclimating to the group and have their favorite humans.

Robin, Ziggy and Misty arrived at the store on Saturday. 

Misty is a young blue cream calico about a year and half old.  She is so pretty!  She was picked up by animal control along with her seven kittens from a woman who could not care for her and the litter.    Five of the kittens went to Animal Outreach and the other two have been placed in foster homes pending adoption.  Misty is sweet and will make a good companion for someone!  She loves to snuggle and is very friendly.

Robin and her littermate Christopher came into the Shelter in November of last year at about three months old.  They were born outside and were nervous and afraid when they arrived.  The two were adopted together late in December.  Sadly the adopter brought both back to the Shelter in early March stating they "were not warming up as expected."  Christopher was transferred to the Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold and Robin is now at PetSmart.  Do not be concerned if you hear a snotty sound coming from Robin. It appears to be a chronic condition.  She underwent a nasal flush and the vet checked out the nasal passages - no polyps or obstructions were visible.  A bacteria analysis was unremarkable.  Robin is friendly, likes other cats and did fine with a small dog while in foster care.

Ziggy had two applications on him in no time.  Of course being a long haired male with two different colored eyes this is not a surprise.  We know how that goes!  He is about six months old and came in as a stray at the beginning of this month.  Many of you will probably never get a chance to meet this guy.

If you do the Adoption Table please make sure that people read and understand the last page of the application that indicates how long the process takes and the required paperwork.  We are changing that form so that is very clear to the applicant.  Some of the older forms are still at the store.  New forms will be sent down soon. I understand completely that people are anxious for the adoption to be approved and pick up arranged however due diligence still needs to be done. 

If someone is interested in adopting a kitten let them know we have litters coming in every day. We typically do not put kittens into fosters-pending-adoption until after their first shots which is about eight weeks.   Just have interested people call the Shelter or stop in to discuss with the staff  our policy on adopting kittens.

The Animal Alliance of Cape May County and the Shelter are still partnering to provide FREE spay/neuter for cats belonging to Cape May County residents.  This includes community cats, outside cats, TNR cats, owned cats, any cats - no matter what you call them!! Please pass that information on!!  Interested people can call the Shelter at 465-8923 or call the AACMC at 465-6388. 

May Brings Four Cats!

Here they are - four new arrivals! Dylan, Hannah, Delaney and Nala.  Gentle reminder...please go slowly with the new guys as they become accustomed to their new environment.  The most stressful time for a cat is when they change environment.  Move slowly and talk quietly and do not force them to come out or to interact with other the cats.  Let them move along at their own pace.

We transferred Flower to the Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwald.  She is fabulous and has been overlooked for way too long.  She will do well with the change in circumstances and most likely get a home quickly.

Dylan and Delaney are litter mates about seven months old.  They came from a situation in Beesley's Point where there was several unfixed cats.  They will be a tad shy and nervous at first but will be fine. Delaney is the least shy of the two. They were fostered for a while with one of our staff so they have lived in a house.  They would be best suited for a home without young kids and without dogs.   If someone is looking to adopt two cats suggest keeping these two together.  The adoption fee of $70.00 will cover both.

Hannah is a senior lady about nine years old.  She showed up one day and a Good Samaritan began to feed her.  Eventually she came to us and we discovered she was spayed.  We posted her on our Facebook page and tried to find her home but to no avail.  Hannah qualifies for the Senior For Senior Adoption Program.

Nala was trapped along with other cats in a TNR colony and it was discovered she was a nursing mom.  She was brought back to the colony and released to join her kittens. After the kittens could eat on their own they were all trapped. Nala enjoys when a fuss is made over her!  She is about two years old.

***VERY IMPORTANT ***  The food in the bin needs to be the PetSmart Brand - Authority - Chicken & Rice Formula  HAIRBALL CONTROL.  Below is a picture of what the bag looks like.  Today staff emptied what was in the bin and replaced it with this product.  Ella ate this just fine at the Shelter and it helps with her grooming.  There is no need to feed her wet food. She is a grazer, too, and will snack slowly.  Also, it just seems terrible to feed wet food to just one of the cats!  The others must go nuts! While at the store we gave Ella a little pile of the hairball formula and she chomped away on it!   (We are receiving an application for Ella as I type this so hopefully that becomes a non issue anyway.  The applicant met Ella last night and it would be a Senior For Senior.)

And a reminder - please do not put any indication on a cage that an application is pending or discourage additional applications in any way. We continue to take applications until a cat goes home.  Many, many times applications fall through.  It ain't over til it's over!!

Onyx went home last night to a big group!  He gained a senior feline brother named Max, mom and dad, and two teenage human siblings.   He is going to have a nice life!  Happy tails, Onyx!

I know you are all anxious for new cats to come to the store.  This is always an add time of year.  At the Shelter we have the teenage cats left from last year's kitten season that are nervous or shy and are not good candidates for the activity and stress of PetSmart, kittens that are too young to go just yet and Barn Buddies.  Fortunately a local rescue is adopting several Barn Buddies next week which will help a lot with that population.

Just so you know should you meet the applicant at the adoption table...  A young woman put in an application for Ella over the weekend.  She called to check on her application twice on Monday however I had yet to review it.  She called a third time so I reviewed the application while she was on hold.  She lives with her parents and the application did not include approval from them (the homeowners) to adopt a cat.  When told she had to submit that approval and could do so via email, letter, call, etc, she became very upset that she was not advised of this during the first phone call. After a few minutes of an unpleasant conversation she hung up on me.  She has not contacted the Shelter since.  It is unfortunate how it ended however she did sign the form that indicates this is a requirement of adoption.

Welcome Ella and Minx!

Two pretty girls arrived at the store today! Please give them time to acclimate to their new environment.

Minx is over four years old and was brought to the Shelter by her owner in November of last year.  The landlord would not allow cats in the rental.  She has been an inside house pet her entire life and lived with other cats.  She will be fine with kids however never lived with dogs.

Ella came into the Shelter in January of this year as a stray.  She was already spayed so someone cared about her at one time.  We think she is about eleven years old. She will be a very nice companion.  She is snuggly and is a talker!  She thoroughly enjoys a good brushing! We do suspect Ella has only partial hearing.

Happy Tails, Tina!!

Tina went home last night!  She will gain a feline brother, three human siblings (ages 9, 7 and 1) and a mom and dad.  She will have lots of company! 

Right now the entire top row of cages is set up for new arrivals.  I'll let you all know when that happens.  Every time we are ready to send a cat down he or she gets adopted from the Shelter!!

Deb and Warren will be back on April 22 and will join us once again at PetSmart!  (Be warned, you guys, it is cold here!  It sure isn't Florida!!  Welcome back - we missed you!!)

Hooray For Phoebe!!

The third time just has to be a charm for our precious Phoebe!  She was adopted by Becky, the PetSmart main manager so we can go ahead and celebrate!!  This WILL be Phoebe's furr-ever home!


Don't worry - more cats are coming to the store.  We were waiting until after the holiday.  Things always slow down during school holidays so we decided not to rush.

Welcome back, Jim and Eileen!! We are certain you had a warmer winter than we did!! As you can see we need your help! 

Farewell, Old Man! We are happy for you!

The very last adoption out of PetSmart was Solomon.  He went to a big family - Mom, Dad, three adult children, a Chihuahua named Chico and another cat named Constance.  They were so excited to add him to their family!

Phoebe arrived at the store yesterday.  She is a sweetheart with a hard luck story.  She was adopted last year from us - from PetSmart, actually,  so many of you may remember her.  She was part of what we called the "Friends" litter - Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Chandler.  Phoebe and Joey were adopted to a young couple last summer.  A couple weeks a woman came into the shelter carrying a cat she claimed to have found.  The cat was obviously suffering from a skin infection around her eyes, head and belly.  It was quite raw and scabbing.  Well, after scanning the "found" cat for a microchip we discovered Phoebe was a previous adoption from us.  We notified the adopter who told us he gave away Phoebe and Joey as they were not doing well with his dog.  Lo and behold - he gave the cats to the very same woman who "found" our Phoebe.  The "founder" was notified and animal control was sent to the property to make sure Joey was ok - which he is.  Phoebe was treated for the skin issue and now needs to go to a REAL forever home. She is a sweetheart and will be fine in a home with kids and other cats.  As far as dogs - we do not know if the dog didn't like the cats or the cats didn't like the dogs.

We have received two applications for Boots -  unfortunately we had to deny both.  Boots can be quite temperamental.  She was surrendered because she was showing some annoyance and biting her previous owner.  Boots gets to a point where she has had it.  We have seen it at the Shelter.  Other cats will get her to point where she becomes aggressive.  This is all quite common of declawed cats as they get older.  Maybe because they now have arthritis in those joints that were cut, or bone spurs.  Discomfort could be making her cranky.   So,  PLEASE,  take our word for it and do not allow other cats to have access to her.

Meet King Solomon!  This gentle old man was brought to an area vet by someone who claimed to have found him. He was already neutered and declawed.  We think he is about ten years.  He is a nice cat and will make a very good companion! He qualifies for the Senior For Senior Adoption Program.

As you already know we brought Anya and Willow back to the Shelter.  Anya seems more comfortable and her belly is healing.

Happy tails, Gene!!

Gene went home Wednesday night!  His new family put in an application after meeting him through the glass at PetSmart.  Mom, dad and their daughter officially met him Wednesday night and it was  they loved him!  He will be joining another cat in the house so will have both human and feline company.

Flower arrived today.  This pretty little girl came into the Shelter in mid July at about 10 weeks old and has been growing up in a cage.  She is ready for a home!

When Flower was dropped off Crystal checked on Anya.  It looks like the redness on her belly has subsided.  Do not be concerned that she has what appears to be udders or oversized mammary glands.  It is just her particular physical make up.  Also, she is a lot more outgoing than you may think!  Say her name and talk to her and she'll come to you looking for attention!

Happy Presidents' Weekend!!

Zoe and Mittens Got Adopted!!

Zoe and Mittens went home last Wednesday.  Both will be the only pets in their respective households so will be showered with love and attention!

Four cats arrived on Friday...Onyx, Gene, Tina and Boots.

Onyx was originally adopted from the Shelter over a year ago.  He was brought back last month because he was either playing rough or reacting to being handled roughly by the owner's adult son. He is a great tom cat that is about six years old.  He is friendly and loves attention.  According to the previous owner Onyx gets along with other cats and never makes "mistakes"  as far as using his litterbox.

Gene is under a year old and was trapped in a local campground last August.  This little cutie may appear shy at first however he is friendly and ready for a home!

Tina is a little girl about a year old.  She came into the Shelter in October of last year along with two very young kittens.  She was skinny and hungry and so happy to be here!  Her kittens were adopted and she is ready to relax now.  She will be shy at first but once she warms up she will be grateful for the attention!!

Boots is an older girl who qualifies for the Senior For Senior Adoption Program.  Boots is over 12 years old and is declawed.    She can get a tad cranky like most female declaws and lets you know when she has had enough.  She just needs a spot on a bed in the sun in a quiet home.  She was surrendered to the Shelter in June of 2016.  Hopefully PetSmart does the trick and Boots gets to go home soon.

Medical is aware that Anya has a rash on her belly.  We are thinking maybe she is allergic to the litter or maybe detergent used to wash the blankets.   We hate to take her and Willow back to the Shelter because we were hoping PetSmart got these two girls adopted.  A decision will be made soon what to do.

Special thanks to Barbara Jones for eleven years of volunteering at PetSmart!  Barb was among the original volunteers who helped me set up the adoption center there when the store opened in 2006.  Work obligations have made it increasingly difficult for Barb to continue. We will miss you!!

Starting 2018 With Adoptions!

First - thank you all very much for taking acre of everything at PetSmart while I was away.  I am so thankful to have such a wonderful group of volunteers - as well as Shelter staff!  I don't even think you guys need me!!

Daphne and Finn went home on Saturday to a woman who has two cats and a dog.  She totally understands that they need time to adjust and has a separate room all set up for them to begin a slow introduction to her home and her pets.

Zoe is going home Wednesday night to a nice man who lives alone.  She will be the only pet.

Anya and Willow arrived at PetSmart while I was away.  Sadly, these two have been brought to the Shelter a total of three times.  They first arrived as seven week old kittens in May of 2010.  They were adopted together in August of that same year.  They were returned in November of 2016 when their family moved and could not take them.  (I know, I know.  What does that even mean?)  They were adopted again in February of 2017.  They were brought back in December of 2017 when a member of the household developed health issues.  The only consistency in their lives has been one another.  They have been inside cats their entire lives.  They are nice cats that have had a lifetime of socialization.  They must be adopted together.  Anya is probably the more nervous of the two.  She has a slight rash on her belly which Leslie checked today.  It may be due to the litter.  Please keep an eye on it.  Please be patient and let them settle in on their terms.

Pretty little Mittens arrived last Friday.  She, like Anya and Willow, was originally adopted from us in January of 2016 as a kitten.  Her family returned her because she was showing signs of allergies.  After being fed a good quality food her skin issues cleared up!  She is a friendly, sweet girl who will walk out of the cage and onto your shoulder.  She lived with other cats.

We have seen an increase in the amount of brown paper being changed daily.  Please do not be too quick to change it. Often times it depends on what cats are there - some are more destructive or messy than others!  I know at times it is unavoidable so by all means if that is the case - change it! Today there are only three pieces remaining.  Rolls will be picked up tonight and dropped at the store for cutting.  Kathy K took over cutting duty for Cindy a few months back.  Kathy picks up the rolls and takes them home for cutting.  If you would like to help with that please let Kathy know.  Just so we always know how many rolls of paper we have please refrain from taking it home to cut without letting me or Kathy know.

You guys will love this...  My husband and I went to an all inclusive resort in Jamaica for our vacation.  No sooner did we arrive at our room then the below cat appeared on our veranda!  We called him Jamaican Sandy because he looks just like our outside cat.  I noticed the ear immediately.  Well, FOUR other cats came strolling up too!  All had either a notch or a straight across tip on their ears!  The next day I was walking along and stumbled upon their feeding station!  The picture is below.   Throughout the week we would cross paths with our new friends - including at lunch while they lounged at the restaurant by the beach! I was so pleased to see these cats all healthy, spayed/neutered, happy and friendly! (Click on the below pictures and they get larger.)

No worries, mon!

Lily left last night and is going to a home with two young adults, a teenager, mom and a black lab/boxer puppy that is only a few months old.  Sounds like there will be a lot of fun happening there!!

Mason is going home on Monday to a very pet friendly home!  There is three dogs - a Jack Russell, a Lab and a Yorkie - and a cat under a year old. There is also mom, dad and two older teenagers.  A lot going on there!

Other cats will be brought to the store in a few days.

Gentle Reminders: Please make some note in the book so the person coming in after you is assured someone was there.  It does not need to be a dissertation!  Simply say, "All ok!" and note the time and date.  If you observe any medical issues please email the shelter at animal.shelter@cmcsheriff.net, Cc me at daviesdunhour@comcast.net and put ATTN MEDICAL in the subject.  If you call the Shelter please follow that up with an email so I am aware contact has been made with the Shelter and so Tom and Chrissy know it has been addressed. Sometimes PetSmart calls to verify we have been notified.   And as always - note your observation in the book.

Now that the holidays are over and the snow is gone let's hope adoptions pick up!!

2018 Starts With Quite A Bang!

Wow!  That storm sure hit us hard!  Hopefully this is the worst of the weather we will see this winter.  Thankfully PetSmart store associates were on hand to take care of our guys during the blizzard.  We have had cats coming and going, and going and coming...so to begin the New Year I am going to properly introduce the eight cats that are at the store as of today.  Some you know - some you do not....  Lots of pairs!!

You will remember Daphne and Finn.  They were at the store for a while and then got sick so they came back to the Shelter   They are about nine months old.  Since they are littermates it would be nice if they went home together.  If both are adopted the second fee is waived.  These two were brought in by a young man who does his best to TNR in his neighborhood where cats are reproducing.  They came in at three months old in early July.

Fish and Fauna also came from an area where sadly cats have been permitted to reproduce.  A concerned animal advocate has been trapping in an effort to get things under control.  These guys came into the Shelter in early July as well,  at about the same age as Daphne and Finn - about three months.   It would be nice to see them get adopted together.  This is another "Two For One" adoption!

Sisters Lily and Rosy are another pair that came in together.  They arrived in mid-July at about five weeks old.  They are a tad shy but very sweet!  "Two For One" here as well!  Often times in a pair adopters choose the "pretty" one and leave the black cat behind. Let's not let that happen to Rosy!

Mason came into the Shelter in early November after being trapped at a motel in Cape May City. He is only about seven months old and will make a great companion!  He loves attention!

Zoe is the lone "adult" cat of this bunch.  She is about four years old. She was spayed when we first met her as a stray in July.  She can be the babysitter to all the younger guys!  She has such a feminine little face! She originally went to Animal Outreach in West Cape May but they decided to bring her back. She was great with the other cats and the people but she kept trying to run out the front door! She is so friendly and will leave with anyone!

So there you have it!  Eight cats to kick off the New Year!! The 2018 schedule went out yesterday.  Thank you all for committing to continue to help with the PetSmart program.  We struggle daily with the number of cats brought to the Shelter and really need this outlet.

Little energetic Harley went home on Saturday, October 28.  He is going to have a great time living with his new parents, their six year old daughter, a dog and another cat.  There will be no shortage of company for this guy!

Bradley left a couple days earlier than Harley.  He is joining another cat named Cleo, three adults and a seven year old.  This couple came down all the way from Mullica Hill to pick him up! 

Sloan and Garfield were brought to the store after the two boys left.  Sloan came in as a stray in mid-September.  She was spayed and eartipped when she came in.  Sadly no one has come looking for her.  She is about five years old.  Sweet Sloan will acclimate to a house with other cats, kids and dogs.

You will all probably remember Garfield.  He was at PetSmart and was adopted into an adult only home a little while ago.  He was brought back to the Shelter because the adopter's husband supposedly hates cats!  What a sad situation for Garfield.  Why they adopted him initially is a mystery - an annoying mystery.  Of course had we known that the adoption would not have been approved.  Garfield is about an year and half old.  He is a little picky about feline company and prefers to be the only cat.  He may be transferred to ROAR in Connecticut.  That decision will be made in a few days.

It is so difficult to believe that the holidays are right around the corner!  Wow!  PetSmart will be closed on Thanksgiving and we do not need to have volunteers go.  Employees will be at the store late Wednesday into Thursday and will leave at 2:00am on Thanksgiving morning.  They will take care of our cats when they leave and double up on food and water.  If you are scheduled the day after Thanksgiving be prepared for a bit more of a mess!

The schedule looks great with the exception of Sundays.  Joelle is back and doing every other Sunday morning beginning this week (November 12).  Help is needed for the alternate days.  We still struggle to fill the Adoption Table on Sundays.  If you are available - even if only once a month - please let me know.  We can train you on the paperwork...it is not difficult.  Plus, the Shelter is open during the table hours so you can always call if you need help or have any questions.  The open dates are below:

Baby Goes Home!

Baby went home with a young man who misses his cat after a recent break up with his girlfriend (she kept the cat).  He has two roommates and no other pets so Baby is going to get a ton of attention!

Angel and Luna went home together last week.  They are joining a house hold with a young couple, an eight year old yellow lab, a seven year old and an infant.  A lot going on in that house!! I think these two are up for it though!

Three new cats arrived in the last week - Harley, Pickles and Bradley.

Harley was actually born at the Shelter so for once we know a real birthday - July 12, 2017.  He is one high energy kitten!  He was already adopted and brought back.  The adopter said he was too much to handle. He's a kitten!!  We think he would do well with a dog to play with!!

Pickles was brought in as a stray in early August.  He is a little shy but will warm up.  He is about six months old.  A nice quieter household or an experienced cat person that takes it slow would do well to adopt him.

Bradley was found outside already neutered - as evidenced by his ear tip.  Someone took the time to alter him,  however no one called looking.  He is a young cat - over a year old but under two.  He is very friendly!  He likes other cats.  We do think he needs a slow introduction to a dog.

Safe travels to Jim and Eileen who head out this week to Arizona for the winter.  We are going to really miss them!!  Jim did a GREAT job on adoptions by making himself available almost on an as needed basis.  Jim and Eileen, have a great winter and we can not wait for you to come back!! A Couple New Arrivals

Baby and Glenn arrived today at PetSmart.  Baby is about eight months old and was surrendered to  the Shelter because the landlord told the tenant he could not stay. What a shame.  He is a well socialized young man that lived with kids.  He is a playful guy who also likes to cuddle - typical baby!  He is fine with other cats however we do not know how he would do with dogs...although all indications are he would be fine.

Glenn is a cutie who was left behind at an apartment complex along with his mom.  He is under six months old.  He is a nice little cat but is so afraid right now at the store.  Go super slow with him.  He would do fine in a home with other cats and where the new family will give him time to trust them.  His mom is at the Shelter for adoption.

We have an application for Fergie and Luna to go together and are waiting to hear from the applicant's landlord.

Kathy K is taking over paper cutting duty and dropped off a batch yesterday.  Thank you, Cindy D, for all these years of cutting paper for our cats!!

Please make sure to jot down a word or two in the notebook when you complete your cleaning.  I realize some of you are more "wordy" than others.  If you want to go into detail that is quite alright!  If you do not or you are short on time simply jot down the date and "All ok" or something similar.  This way we know someone was definitely there.

The October schedule is complete with the exception of a couple of Adoption Table dates and one Wednesday morning.  The dates are listed below.  If you are available to cover let me know.
